MASS OF ACID

Somewhere between a midnight highway and the deep woods of Twin Peaks, MASS OF ACID emerges with a sound that pulses like a distant radio transmission from another dimension. The trio of Devon Murray (vocals, bass, guitar, drum programming and sequencing), CJ Caffrey (guitar, bass, synth), and Dustin Soares (guitar, synth) doesn’t just write songs; they craft sonic worlds, where propulsive beats and synthesizers drive forward underneath like headlights through the fog, while spectral vocals and guitars swirl on top, blurred and beautiful, like a dream just out of reach.

On their debut EP, “Monster In The Private Room”, MASS OF ACID fuses electronic psychedelia with the rich textures of alternative rock’s more experimental edges. The rhythm section is a heartbeat of pulsing synth, bass and percussion that never loses focus while the washed out vocals and guitar lines with shoegaze sprawl create dreamlike tension for the listener. If MGMT had locked themselves in a studio with a David Lynch storyboard for inspiration, the result might sound something like this. There’s a duality at play: a push-and-pull between the mechanical and the organic, the structured and the surreal.

MASS OF ACID’s music has a nod to the past—echoes of early synth pioneers, the rhythmic drive of post-punk, the dream logic of ‘90s indie experimentalists—but it’s unmistakably forward-thinking. Their music expresses a band already fluent in its own sonic language, one that thrives in the spaces between motion and meditation, clarity and blur, the tangible and the spectral.
